[EU] Cofunding from JRC for a doctoral candidate in the frame of Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships

Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships with JRC

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) launches a new call for higher education institutions (HEI) or universities to participate in the Collaborative Doctoral Partnership Programme (CDP). The CDP is an initiative of the JRC to establish strategic collaborations with HEIs/universities.

Dual PhD projects

The programme facilitates dual PhD projects, where HEIs/universities partner up with the JRC to jointly design, host, and supervise doctoral research across the JRC portfolios. The PhD project serves as a platform to explore fresh ideas and possible future collaborations with the JRC.  The call is formulated around 25 Collaboration Topics.

Both the university and the JRC appoint the PhD student for 2 years. The selected supervisors are invited to design and supervise the PhD project in one of the pre-selected research themes together with the JRC.

  • As Ghent University professor, you are expected to invest own funding (kas) or research funds of particular research projects (with the condition the project topic relates to the research topic of the JRC proposal), to hire the student for 2 years as PhD fellow (doctoraatsbursaal) or scientific staff member (lid WP-kader).
  • Whilst staying at JRC premises, the JRC will cover the costs of the doctoral candidates.

Application process

  • To apply for this co-funding, fill in the online Application Form (max. approx. 8 pages).
  • Deadline: 18 March 2025, 23.59 (CET)

Annual call as of 2025

Starting in 2025, the CDP will issue an annual call for expressions of interest from HEIs/universities to participate in the programme.
