Open Research Europe

Open Research Europe (ORE) is a scholarly publishing platform available to Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe beneficiaries. It comes at no cost, has a rigorous and open peer review process, and the open access model enables everyone to access the results.

The ORE platform was set up to give researchers with a European grant a place to publish Open Access, free of charge and in compliance with the Open Access regulation of the EC. Open Research Europe also requests Open Access to research data in support of the article according to the principle "as open as possible, as closed as necessary" and the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe mandate.

How does it work?

The Open Research Europe platform has a system of open peer review. Peer review of articles published in Open Research Europe takes place after publication; once the article is published, expert reviewers are invited. The peer review process is entirely open and transparent: each review, plus the approval status selected by the reviewer, is published with the reviewer’s name and affiliation alongside the article. Peer reviews are published after an editorial check and the peer review status of the article is updated with every published peer review. All versions of an article are linked and independently citable. The final accepted article is identified as such and sent to major indexing databases and repositories.

• Free of charge: The Open Research Europe platform makes it possible for researchers to publish in Open Access free of charge and thus comply with the Open Access mandate of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. No APCs are charged.

• Open: Articles are published under a CC-BY license for publications and a CC-0 license for data. 
• Fast and transparent: The ORE platform uses an open research publishing model: publications are public within a few days of submission, followed by a transparent open peer review.

Good to know

• Only articles resulting from research by European research grants Horizon 20200 and Horizon Europe are admissible. You can still publish on the platform after the end date of the project. 
• A published article cannot be published a second time in another journal or platform. You can deposit the article in an institutional repository, for UGent, that repository is Biblio.
